OPIOID FUNDING ANNOUNCMENT

Updated: Mar 8, 2019

PCHS supports the South Asian community through a full range of culturally relevant programs. The addition of a much needed opioid program will enhance and strengthen our current programs and provide access to a spectrum of services under one roof.

The Opioid program will be lead by Dr Jupinder Bains, and Rupinder Hehar our clinical psychologist and manager of operations. The PCHS opioid program will use a harm reduction approach to help people better understand their substance use and options for treatment. We will do this by providing individual case management, a family support program, group programs, a day program with resource navigation and links to other community treatment resources and awareness and prevention strategies.

One of the key elements of this program will be the distribution of Naloxone kits by trained staff. This alone will save many lives on the frontlines. Through this program, we also hope to open a dialogue with our community about substance use, the stigma that surrounds it and the shame that inhibits people from seeking help.

The Opioid program will also reinforce our partnership with the Peter Lougheed Hospital, Dr Mackay and Dr Harbir Gill have been working with PCHS for the past year to seek solutions to stop the revolving door for many South Asian patients fighting addictions. Now, we will have appropriately trained staff and specific programs to assist these individuals.
